  • Dec. 15, A 77 Hour Lumenbox Twin Exposure

Dec. 15, A 77 Hour Lumenbox Twin Exposure

For this shot the tiny Twin was taped to the window of the back door. The first couple days of the exposure where under a blanket of clouds but the sun came out on the third day.

  • Dec. 10, 80+56, Two Views of the Back Porch

Dec. 10, 80+56, Two Views of the Back Porch

Just a pair of very long exposure indoor looking out Lumenbox photos. One obviously got a lot more direct sun than the other. I much prefer the 80 hour exposure with the sun trails I find it interesting that when you go beyond a certain point in the exposure, the color shifts become much more…

  • Dec. 6, My First Shot with the Lumenbox Twin!

Dec. 6, My First Shot with the Lumenbox Twin!

I really didn’t think this was going to work. Today was a cloudy, sometimes rainy day, yet I insisted on taking an outdoor photo as my first Twin shot. Between the lack of available sunlight and the intermittent rain, I didn’t think this shot had much of a chance.

  • Nov.29, 51 Hours, Burn Through:

    Nov.29, 51 Hours, Burn Through:

A 51 hour interior Lumenbox exposure, as you can see from the photo, this one got quite a bit of direct sun. This shot also turned out to be an unintentional multiple exposure in that the tape that was holding the Lumenbox to the window gradually gave way causing the top of the Lumenbox to…

  • Nov. 25, 97 Hours

    Nov. 25, 97 Hours

Of indoor Cámara Galletita Lumen exposure that is. It’s not all that much in the way of colors but I think it would take a couple weeks in that spot to get good colors with this camera. I’ll try another long exposure in a sunnier window soon.

Nov. 22, More Than You Wanted to Know: A Cat Scan of my Brain or a Burning Tree?

I really try to keep this blog pretty much dedicated to Photography and not a place for my general rants or complaints about my various ailments, so I’m certain this will be way more than you wanted to know about me, but here we go. From time to time I’m afflicted by insomnia wherein I…

  • Nov. 18, 75 Hours

    Nov. 18, 75 Hours

I think I may have hit the sweet spot for interior Lumenbox exposures in the winter. I don’t recall seeing colors like this since this summer’s The Souls of Burning Objects series. It always pleases me to get some naturalistic colors as well as the more Fauvist hues, the fence in this shot really is…

  • Nov. 12, 100 Hours:

    Nov. 12, 100 Hours:

I was trying to determine how many hours/days of exposure it would take to get the colors I prefer in a Lumenbox shot indoors. I went into this with the full understanding that it might be a completely futile exercise considering how weak the sunlight is these days. It turns out that I think I…

  • Nov. 8, 2 Versions of a 53 Hour Lumenbox Exposure.

Nov. 8, 2 Versions of a 53 Hour Lumenbox Exposure.

I guess it’s sort of cheating to call it a 53 hour exposure as probably less than 24 hours of that were in daylight. I did two different scans of the 6×6 paper negative. The first scan came out very, very dark so much so that I thought the light in the scanner was out.…

  • Oct. 29, Due West

    Oct. 29, Due West

And yet another Cámara Galletita Still Life. I think this one was a 10 hour exposure.

  • Oct. 22 Due North

    Oct. 22 Due North

Another from my series of glass still lifes with the Cámara Galletita Lumen, this is from The Cardinal Directions series within a series. I was concerned that this one wouldn’t really work at all, as these long exposure shots seem to need a lot of light to do their thing. Since this one was faced…

  • Oct. 20, Another Strange One…

    Oct. 20, Another Strange One…

A Lumenbox shot that is. Following Rothko’s Sunflowers, I’m not sure I’d call this one progress. I guess it is what it is. I don’t think these long exposure Lumenbox shots are something that is very controllable, but I pretty much never give up, so I’ll keep trying to get the results I’m after until…

  • Oct. 17, An Even Stranger Lumenbox Shot

Oct. 17, An Even Stranger Lumenbox Shot

I would never claim that my Lumenbox photographs have much conventional going on for them (notice how I avoid using the term ‘normal’) or are very usual for photographs. Nonetheless I was more than a little bit surprised by this one. By its flatness, by its colors, it just strikes me as being substantially different…

  • Sept. 30, Sunset Glass

    Sept. 30, Sunset Glass

I think I’m nearing the end of this series of Cámara Galletita Lumen still lifes, at the least this glass variety. Maybe I’ll just do one more? But it does seem time to move on to the next set of experiments. Having said that, I think this is my favorite of the bunch. I know,…

  • Sept. 24, Not a Still Life (Per Se)

Sept. 24, Not a Still Life (Per Se)

At first I was really disappointed with this one, but it’s beginning to grow on me. Just goes to show that maybe I shouldn’t be so hasty to harshly judge my own work. I set up the Cámara Galletita Lumen looking out the bathroom window, it was a very dull and cloudy day though, so…

  • Sept. 22, A More Representational Lumenbox Still Life

Sept. 22, A More Representational Lumenbox Still Life

For this shot, I used the same glass still life that I’d used for yesterdays shot (and a couple Cámara Galletita Lumen shots) but I pulled the camera back so that things would be somewhat in focus. To be honest, I’m not in love with the shot. I’ve been enjoying the the more abstract Lumenbox…

  • Sept. 18 Noon Glass 2

    Sept. 18 Noon Glass 2

Another Cámara Galletita Lumen still life on a smokey hazy day. This one was aimed to catch the noon day sun before it was obscured by smoke. I think it’s interesting how the forms of the bottles have merged with the colors and textures of the vegetation. This really is a very odd camera.

  • Sept. 14, A Shorter, but Still Long Cámara Galletita Lumen Exposure.

Sept. 14, A Shorter, but Still Long Cámara Galletita Lumen Exposure.

This was only a five hour exposure because it seemed like rain was imminent although it never materialized. By the time I brought the camera in, the sky was so filled with smoke that there was no sunlight to speak of anyway. For this shot the camera was facing southwest but angled to catch the…

  • Sept. 12, A Lumenbox Double Exposure of Sorts:

Sept. 12, A Lumenbox Double Exposure of Sorts:

This was an 11 hour exposure, but I think I left it too long on the first portion of the exposure, so that the second part is barely discernible. What I found interesting about this shot is that the colors are somewhat reversed. The house is actually turquoise and the hummingbird feeder is bright red.…

  • Sept. 11, Rain of Fire

    Sept. 11, Rain of Fire

The title of this one seems more than a bit ironic as I was working in midtown Manhattan on Sept.11. Often I find myself crying for no reason on this date and then I remember it’s Sept.11. I haven’t ever written about that day. In NYC we didn’t know if it was the end of…

  • Sept. 7, Another Cámara Galletita Still Life

Sept. 7, Another Cámara Galletita Still Life

Most of the Cámara photos come out pretty incredibly abstract. In my mind they’re more about light, color and sometimes pattern than any kind of actual photographic representation. Still, sometimes I wish for just a touch of fidelity to the subject at hand might be nice. I think it happened in this one! If you…
